Global Youth Service Day is a world-wide event mobilizing millions of youth within 100 countries in service to their communities. Be a part of the movement.  Join Hanover’s 4th Annual Global Youth Service Day - April 15th to April 17th.

2011 Spirit of Volunteerism Awards.
Nominate your outstanding Volunteers for Hanover’s 2011 Spirit of Volunteerism Awards.   Categories include Spirit of One, Spirit of Youth, Spirit of Team, Spirit of Family, Spirit of Dedication, Spirit of Inspiration and Commitment to Community .  Download the nomination info packet, hard copy nomination form or complete nomination on line at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2011spiritofvolunteerism  . Deadline is March 1, 2011.

Service Project Proposals Sought for GYSD 2011
This year GYSD will be April 15-17th and the goal is to involve every Hanover County resident age 5-25 in an act of service within the Hanover community. Non-profits, community organizations and individuals are encouraged to develop service projects, creating the opportunity for youth to meet crucial community needs. Project hosts will then submit their project proposals to the Department of Community Resources by January 31st. Click here to learn about Hanover’s GYSD Fairtastic event on March 5th. Download your Project Application form (Word version or pdf version) to register your individual or group project to engage youth in service to your organization or highlight what you will do for the community.

Hanover’s Global Youth Service Day Project Proposals Sought - 1/28/10
Organizations are encouraged to host one or more projects during GYSD weekend, April 23-25, 2010, that would benefit the organization and the community. As a GYSD Lead Agency, Hanover Community Resource is ready to assist with youth appropriate project design, promotion, volunteer recruitment and registration and more. This year’s goal is to engage 19,000 youth and adults over the weekend of service.

Hanover Named One of the 100 Best Communities For Young People - 9/23/10
The efforts of Hanover County civic and community leaders were honored on September 21, 2010 when America’s Promise Alliance (the Alliance), the nation’s largest partnership organization dedicated to youth and children, announced Hanover County had been named a winner of the Alliance’s 100 Best Communities for Young People (100 Best) competition presented by ING. Its 2010 recognition marks the third win for Hanover County in the competition. Hanover was one of eight localities in Virginia and one of only two in Central Virginia to receive the recognition.  Read more…

Hanover Youth Service Council Begins 12th Annual School Supply Drive - 7/23/10
HYSC youth have placed collection boxes at all Hanover Library Branches, the Hanover County Administration Building, the Dept. of Community Resources Office in Ashland, numerous businesses and other public locations. Members will be at the Mechanicsville Wal-Mart on Thursday, August 5th from 9 a.m. to 12 noon to accept supplies.  All supplies will be distributed to Hanover county students in need through their schools or HYSC’s 2nd Annual Pack-A-Backpack Party.

HYSC Thanks the Community For 2010 LemonAid Stand Support - 7/29/10
The Hanover Youth Service Council raised $270.00 for the Children’s Miracle Network as part of the 2010 Richmond area Anthem LemonAid Stand fundraiser on July 17th.  Braving the almost 100 degree heat, HYSC members surpassed their 2009 collection.

"Pay It Forward” Hot Chocolateers! - 1/6/10
To encourage the community to “pay it forward” this holiday season, HYSC members set up a hot chocolate brigade at the Mechanicsville Christmas Parade.  In lieu of payment, members passed out bookmarks complete with ideas on how individuals could return the favor by doing a good deed for others.
