Hanover Industries

What is Hanover Industries?

Hanover Industries is a center-based employment program for persons with disabilities who are interested in working and who may require ongoing support in order to maintain employment. Hanover Industries currently offers training and paid work Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 2:30pm. Hanover Industries holds a certificate through the Department of Labor which enables us to employ persons who are not yet able to be competitively employed. Our employees/consumers are paid a piece rate based upon the job they are working on and their productivity level on that job.

Who is Eligible?

  • A resident of Hanover County.
  • Placement must be considered the least restrictive level of programming appropriate for the individual.
  • A Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services (DRS) or Case Management consumer.
  • Have intellectual disabilities, traumatic brain injury, physical disability, or a long-term mental illness.
  • At least 18 years old.

What Services are Offered?

  • Training in a variety of work related skills.
  • Employment.

Day Health and Rehabilitation

What is Day Health and Rehabilitation?

The Day Health and Rehabilitation program is a licensed day support service that has been in operation since 1990. Day Health and Rehabilitation provides individualized community integration and life skills training for persons who are unable to work or choose not to be in an intensive work-training program.

Who is Eligible?

Services are available to Hanover County residents age 18 and older who have a diagnosis of intellectual disabilities and/or severe disabilities.

What Services are Offered?

Day Support services are provided four to seven-and-a-half hours per day, Monday through Friday, for adults with intellectual disabilities. These services include:

  • Assessment of the individual's skills, abilities and needs.
  • Individualized program development and implementation guided by the consumer's desires.
  • Individual training for improved skill building and increased independence.
  • Social interaction.
  • Community integration.
  • Formalized reviews to monitor progress and need for changes.

Hanover Recycling

What is Hanover Recycling?

Hanover Recycling is a paper recycling business/program. Hanover Recycling currently offers training and employment Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 2:30pm. Hanover Recycling holds a certificate through the Department of Labor and wages are paid commensurate with each person's ability and productivity. Productivity ratings are completed every six months and our employees wages are adjusted accordingly. Hanover Recycling plans to continue to employ persons in competitive positions as well as supported positions.

  • Placement must be considered the least restrictive level of programming appropriate for the individual.
  • A Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services (DRS) or Case Management consumer.
  • Have intellectual disabilities, traumatic brain injury, physical disability, or a long-term mental illness
  • Be at least 18 years old.

Intellectual Disabilities Case Management Services

What are Case Management Services?

Case Management services provide information and referral as well as individualized help and advocacy in obtaining services and resources including education, training, employment, housing, recreation, transportation and financial assistance to people with a intellectual disabilities diagnosis.

Who is Eligible?

We serve children and adults who have a confirmed diagnosis of intellectual disabilities, who reside in public or private facilities, whose families live in Hanover County or who list a permanent Hanover County address. Children under the age of six must have a confirmed cognitive developmental delay.

What Services are Offered?

Case Managers work closely with the consumer and/or their families to provide quality person centered services. Case Managers work to link, coordinate and monitor services for individuals with intellectual disabilities or developmental delay. Case Managers are the guides to help families through the system of care. Case Managers work with other agency and community personnel in facilitating the best services for an individual with intellectual disabilities.

Residential Services

What are Residential Services?

Residential services offer eligible individuals opportunities to enjoy life in their community of choice. The services range from twenty-four hour supervised living to supported living to respite care services.

Who is Eligible?

The eligibility criteria may vary depending on the service. Priority is generally given to:

  • Hanover County residents.
  • Consumers who have a diagnosis of intellectual disabilities, developmental delay or serious mental illness and who have an assigned Case Manager.
  • Consumers who want to experience a productive, person-centered life in the community and are willing to participate in skills training to become more independent.

What Services are Offered?

  • 24 hour a day/7 day a week supervised living - similar to the traditional Group Home model. This option is for adults with intellectual disabilities only.
  • Supported Living - offers adults with intellectual disabilities and/or mental illness an opportunity to live independently in the community with support from Case Managers and other CSB staff. This option is for adults only.
  • Respite Care Services - offers caregivers an opportunity to take a break away from the day to day challenges of providing care for someone with a disability. Center based and in-home respite care services are offered. This option is for children and adults.

Supported Employment

What is Supported Employment?

Supported Employment is a vocational option for individuals who require extra assistance to become employed in the community. People with disabilities are employed by community businesses and supported by job coaches who train and support workers on the job in the Supported Employment Program. Through jobs, persons with disabilities are integrated into the community and encouraged to expand and grow to their maximum potential.

Who is Eligible?

  • A resident of Hanover County.
  • Placement must be considered the least restrictive level of programming appropriate for the individual.
  • A Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services (DRS) consumer or have other means to pay for Supported Employment Services (extended payment plans and other work incentives are available options.)
  • Have moderate to severe intellectual disabilities or have mild intellectual disabilities with secondary disability, and/or have traumatic brain injury, physical disability, or a long-term mental illness.
  • Be at least 18 years old.

What Services are Offered?

  • Job Development and Assessment to identify consumer's interests and skills and match them with job opportunities in the community. Employment Specialists contact local businesses to identify possible job matches.
  • Job Placement and Training services begin for the individual once there is a good job match and the employer offers the position to the individual. Strategies are implemented by the Employment Specialist and the new employee to help the employee achieve a level of work performance that is in line with the employer's expectations.
  • Follow along Services are provided to individuals who are successfully placed in employment and the Employment Specialist is providing minimal support on the job site. Employment Specialists monitor the individuals work and work related activities.
