Parent’s Summer Survival Guide
Ages 18 and up. It’s summer time and your children are out of school. How do you make this summer enjoyable and memorable for everyone in your family? This workshop will give wonderful local ideas for spending time as a family. You will also receive practical parenting advice for setting new expectations for the summer months in order to create a peaceful home. Although this course is free, preregistration is required as space is limited.

Ages 5-11. While parents attend the Parent’s Summer Survival Guide workshop, children ages 5-11 are invited to attend a life skills workshop and learn skills they need to make healthy life choices. Parents must register for the adult workshop in order for their child to attend the concurrent workshop. Helping Children Cope with Stress
Ages 18 and up. All children will experience stress from time to time. Any period of adjusting to change, like starting a new school or getting used to having a new baby brother or sister, can be hard. Problems with schoolwork or conflicts with other children can all create stress. This workshop will help parents teach their children how to handle new or frustrating situations and teach ways of managing stress. Although this course is free, preregistration is required as space is limited.

Strengthening Resiliency in Children
Ages 18 and up. This is a workshop about promoting your child’s capacity to cope with many successes and challenges that life presents. Every day, children are given opportunities to succeed. During successful times, our children feel a sense of pride and satisfaction that comes from their accomplishments. Along with success, many children struggle with daily challenges. When obstacles feel too overwhelming, some children will attempt to give up or avoid the challenge altogether. Resilient children recognize that challenges may be frustrating but are genuine opportunities for growth. This workshop is intended to provide a guide for helping parents to develop the skills to promote resiliency in their children. Although this course is free, preregistration is required as space is limited.

Girl Drama Caring Relationships
Ages 18 and up. Are you wading through girl drama? Is your daughter friends with someone one day but not the next? You are not alone. Many parents are trying to help their daughters navigate through the complexities of girl friendships. In this workshop, parents will learn the skills to be able to teach their daughters about relational aggression and developing health friendships. Topics on relational aggression include: rumor spreading, excluding from social groups, revealing secrets, cyber bullying, and using hostile body language (eye-rolling). Although this course is free, preregistration is required as space is limited.

Strengthening Families Program
Ages 3 and up. Do you want to improve your relationship with your child? The Strengthening Families Program is designed for families with teens age 10 to 14. The program is unique because it is designed for the whole family. Parents meet to learn about adolescent development and share ideas that work, while the middle-schoolers learn their own set of skills. Then the two groups join together to practice what they’ve learned and have some fun together. Younger siblings have a supervised group of their own. Parent topics include Using Love and Limits, Making House Rules, Encouraging Good Behavior, Using Consequences, Building Bridges, and Protecting Against Substance Abuse. Teen topics focus on healthy decision making, friendships, handling frustrations, and communication. The teen activities are fun and interactive. Dinner is provided. Although this course is free, preregistration is required as space is limited.
