Subscription Program Will Be Available
Sept. 27, 2004
As part of the revenue recovery program adopted by the Board
of Supervisors earlier this year, by January 1 Hanover County
residents will be able to sign up for a subscription program for
ambulance transport service.
For $60 annually, all members of your household can become subscribers.
Employees of businesses located in Hanover County and served by
Hanover Fire/EMS also
can subscribe.
Revenue recovered from ambulance transport will be used to fund
Fire/EMS needs, including personnel and equipment. Hanover County
estimates that about $1.5 million will be recovered annually.
The recovered revenue will ease the burden on property taxes to
finance Fire/EMS needs, which are driven by a significant increase
in emergency calls. Hanover Fire/EMS responded to 20,000 calls last
year, a 74% increase in five years.
The revenue will be recovered primarily from Medicaid, Medicare
and private insurance policies, which include the cost of ambulance
transport. Payments from individuals are expected to account for
only 5% of revenues recovered.
Billing is expected to begin by March 2005.
Additional revenue will also help Hanover Fire/EMS meet the needs
of citizens. Adopted performance standards for Hanover Fire/EMS
can be read here.
